Preferred Healthcare Staffing is a leader in staffing allied health jobs since 1994. Preferred is unique because they only cater to allied health; placing permanent, travel, and per diem positions. Preferred staffs all therapists (PT, OT, SLP, RT’s) as well as social workers, radiology, oncology, and laboratory travelers. Headquartered in sunny San Diego, Preferred is local to California and has exclusive contracts in the golden state!
On August 25th, Preferred Healthcare Staffing and I are hosting a beach house BBQ bash for therapist appreciation! The bash is on a beachfront house in Playa Del Rey! Come and relax for a day of fun, sun, beach, freshly grilled food, drinks, and a chance to socialize and network!
I’ve really enjoyed getting to learn about Preferred and speak with many members of their team, including their President! I’m asking them some questions now so you can get to know them better before the party, and if you need a new assignment!
RSVP HERE: TravelTherapyParty.invitespring.com and please put the discipline of therapy you practice in the comments.
I’m so excited to be hosting this party with Preferred! What are you looking forward to the most at the beach bash?
We’re all REALLY excited too! At Preferred, we are really looking forward to having the opportunity to meet, and hang out with a bunch of therapists in a fun environment! We love to put a face with a name, and spend quality time with therapists when we can; we couldn’t exist without them. In the office, we spend our days talking on the phone, and developing relationships with people we rarely get to meet; we want to change that. Plus, it gives us a totally legit excuse to throw an awesome party.
What makes Preferred different than other staffing agencies?
We’re a small, family owned company. We’re not under the umbrella of a huge corporation like most of our competitors. That gives us the luxury of doing things differently, like throwing this party. It also puts us in the position to offer a more personal experience, for instance, our after-hours emergency phone is answered by a member of our team, not a call center. We’re a relatively small group, and we’re tight knit. We’re the place where everybody knows your name.
Some people coming to the BBQ may have never heard of Preferred before. What would you like them to know about the company?
California is our stompin’ grounds, so we hope most of the locals are familiar with us! We’ve been around long enough to acquire more direct therapy clients in California than any other agency, so we have a lot of exclusive jobs. We also just opened an office in Florida so we can start to spread our wings on the East Coast. Additionally, we’re Joint Commission Certified and Best of Staffing awarded, so we honestly do have our ducks in a row. Next year we’ll be turning 25, so we’re hoping to plan a celebration with therapists and clients, to give everyone a chance to mix and mingle together!
What does Preferred Healthcare Staffing value as a company?
Doing the very best that we possibly can to take care of our clinicians, clients, and internal employees. It’s pretty simple, we believe that this practice plays an integral role in our mutual successes, and ultimately translates into better patient care.
Your office is located in San Diego, which is a bucket list destination for many travelers! Any recommendations for “must sees” in San Diego while on assignment?
There are a million great things to do here, where to start?! Go sea kayaking with the seals and sea lions in La Jolla. Rent a bike and cruise along the beach boardwalk. Visit Coronado Island and go to Hotel Del Coronado. Wander around in Balboa Park. Explore Old Town, and stop by to tour the Whaley House – it’s ranked the #1 most haunted house in the United States. Eat Mexican food. Go deep sea fishing.
Spend some time exploring the neighborhood of North Park. Eat fish tacos. Visit a handful of our world-famous breweries. Tour the Star of India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship that houses a maritime museum inside. Take a surfing lesson. Wander around in the Gaslamp Quarter downtown. Tour the USS Midway, a retired aircraft carrier turned maritime museum. Visit Cabrillo National Monument (on a clear day!), the site where the first European expeditions reached the West Coast.
Final Question: who is going to be the “grill master” at the BBQ and what kind of food should we expect?
That would be master chef Barry, our President, and his trusty sidekick, Dakota, one of our recruiters! They always man the grill at our cookouts, and they rock at it. We’ll be serving pretty traditional (but high-quality) BBQ fare: burgers & brats, fish, fruit, summer salads, snacks, etc. The classic, tried and true all-American summer BBQ!
Thanks for answering all of these questions! Looking forward to the beach bash in August! Please RSVP here and put the discipline of therapy you practice in the comments: TravelTherapyParty.invitespring.com

Enjoy the party! I started with Preferred in ~1996 and was with the company for a long time. All of you guys, at the time it was Barber and Sally were very helpful and supportive. I am working as a PA now but may return to some work as a PTA on occasion. Again enjoy your BBQ Bash.

Thanks Jerry! Sally was at the BBQ this weekend 🙂
